Key Discoveries

1. 5-Chamber Structure of the Heart

Anatomically and physiologically, the heart has not 4, but 5 chambers: two atria, two ventricles, and the pericardial cavity, which plays an active role in the pumping function of the heart.

2. Third Circulation Circle

In addition to the pulmonary and systemic circulations, there is a third (coronary) circulation — the system of self-supply of the heart with blood. This is an independent physiological system.

3. Mechanism of Blood Filling ("Catapult")

For the first time in physiology, the complete cardiac cycle is described with an explanation of the mechanism of heart filling with blood and the key role of the pericardium. This mechanism is called the "catapult".

4. Origin of the U Wave on ECG

For the first time in cardiology, an explanation is given for the origin of the U wave on the electrocardiogram and the physiological processes it reflects in the heart during ventricular diastole.

New in the Theory of Heart Structure and Activity

The article reveals the processes of the diastolic function of the heart. It was established that the pericardium is a capsule whose purpose is constancy of volume during deformation of the heart during systole of the atria, ventricles and respiratory vibrations of the diaphragm. The connection of heart activity with the muscles of the "diaphragm legs" regulating the height of the tendon center of the diaphragm is revealed. The force interaction of the heart and spine is established: myocardium ↔ epicardium ↔ pericardial cavity ↔ pericardium ↔ tendon center ↔ diaphragm legs ↔ spine (lumbar vertebrae L3-5).
